Basketball is one of the most famous sports in world with more than 450 million active players and it is really famous in our school too. Since the 10th of the may teachers and students are competing against each other in traditional ACI street-ball tournament. The tournament is organized by P.E teachers and located in Shepard Hall and open courts where have more than eight basketball courts. There are more than 100 players who are competing and they all know how to play basketball. There is a team called “Masters” which is the team our basketball coach Erhan Bey is playing. Erhan Bey was a professional coach in Banvit Sports Club and he believes that if there wasn’t any sports activities in our school, it will lose its “ACI spirit” because basketball is the thing which holds us together.
Basketball is a great sport which improves friendship and team work. All over the world well known companies organize basketball tournaments to improve their employees mental and physical health. Because in basketball every player has a big role and big responsibility. These tournaments helped us to get rid of stress and it made us refreshed. Students felt like they are part of something and they enjoyed it. With this tournament students made new friends, they found new things about themselves, for example: in this tournament I learned that I am really good at basketball and team work but because I am too competitive I made wrong decisions and forced my team to lose the match.It is great that our school is organizing such an amazing tournament like this. I hope that other schools in Izmir will start to create these kind of tournaments.
